Erondegemse Pijl or Erpe-Mere is
the final round of the Lotto Cycling Cup for 2014. Heading in
Sofie De Vuyst has a 41 point lead over Liesbet De Vocht and
with only 30 points on offer for the win Sofie De Vuyst will
walk away the overall winner.
Annelies Dom leads the points classification by 22 points over
Emma Johansson who is not racing. Johansson still leads the
GPM classification, 11 points ahead of Jessie Daams and 12 on
Armitstead but none of the top 5 are riding making that
classification also sealed. Futurumshop.nl-Zannata leads the
teams by 32 points over Wiggle Honda who are not riding here.
While the overall classifications are decided the win in the
1.2 race is still up for grabs and there is an pretty open
field. Most of the big teams are not here with the focus on
the next round of the UCI World Cup Sparkassen Giro on Sunday.
The Contenders
Christine Majerus
The National Road and Time Trial Champion of Luxembourg comes
in with good form. Top 6 on ever stage of Internationale
Thuringen Rundfahrt other than the last, to finish 4th
overall. With Lizzie Armitstead at the Commonwealth Games
Majerus gets an opportunity for herself. A strong classics
rider and the few climbs on the course are unlikely to trouble
her. Dangerous in a sprint from a reduced group.
Liesbet De Vocht
The 35 year old De Vocht is a name that flies under the radar
but when it comes to the spring classics she is always around
the mark. 4th at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and 7th at
Gent-Wevelgem and Ronde van Vlaanderen this year. One of the
most experience riders in the peloton and in this field expect
her to put it to good use.
Kelly Druyts
Hasn't raced a lot this year but when she has, her form has
been good. 6th at the Belgium National Championships despite
some hard competition. Top 20 in the three one day races she
has done this year. Her best result was 3rd at the Diamond
Tour, a race with a very similar field. 7th at
Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik and when you look at the names
ahead of her Vos, Johansson, Longo Borghini, Gunnewijk,
Moolman and Hosking you see the potential.
Sofie De Vuyst
Has already sealed the win in the Lotto Cycling Cup but hasn't
quite managed a win this year. That could change here. Was a
stand out in the early part of the season with 3rd Le Samyn,
4th Gent-Wevelgem, 5th Omloop van het Hageland and 6th Omloop
Het Nieuwsblad. Stood on the podium at the National
Championships and comes in with good form after finishing 9th
at Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt.
Vera Koedooder
Koedooder likes to attack and it is how she picks up most of
her wins. Took a solo stage and 2nd overall in April at
Energiewacht Tour. Is always consistent and recently finished
3rd and 7th at Tour de Feminin and BeNe Ladies Tour
respectively. Time trials very well and if you let her get a
gap you might not see her again.
Other names to watch: Marion Rousse, Kaat Hannes, Emilie Aubry
and Lotta Lepisto.
Since initial publication Hannah Walker will not start due to
illness. |
