The under 23 time trial is always
a hotly contested category in Australia thanks to past success
in the event and track riders heading to the road.
Scotson brothers Miles and Callum have won the last two tiles
but with Miles moving to the elite ranks Callum is back along
to defend his title alone. Former junior world championship
medallist Michael Storer will be chasing his first under 23
title while the likes of Alistair Donohoe, Harry Carpenter and
Harry Sweeny will be looking to end the Scotson family run.

Callum Scotson
Callum Scotson will be hoping to take back-to-back wins and
make it a third win for the Scotson family. His victory last
year set him up for a stunning season that included a world
title on the track and Olympic silver in the team pursuit.
Looked set for a strong result at the Under 23 World
Championships but a long season took its toll but he still
finished top 10.
Michael Storer
Michael Storer shot to prominence in 2014 winning the Oceania
junior time trial title and world championship bronze. Last
year in his first year under 23 he finished sixth at the
national championships and took bronze at the Oceania
Championships. Before an impressive stint in Europe saw him
finish fifth at Chrono Champenois. With another year
experience in his legs expect him to challenge for the top
step of the podium this year.
Joshua Harrison
In his final year in the under 23 ranks Harrison will be
hoping to add a Road Nationals medal to his name. Better known
as a track rider he impressed at the Oceania Championships in
December. Finished fifth in 2016 just 20 seconds off the
podium and the last 12 months have seen him go from strength
to strength.
Alistair Donohoe
Best known for his Para-cycling results including world titles
on the track and road and Paralympic silver medals but Donohoe
has also spent the past two years racing with Jayco-AIS World
Tour Academy in Europe. 10th in 2015 and 12th last year but
with less Para-cycling events on the calendar in 2017 expect a
strong performance.
Angus Lyons
Eighth in 2015 and seventh in 2016 can Lyons improve further
and find the podium in 2017 like he did as a junior in 2014?
Liam Magennis
Magennis was the silver medallist at the Under 19 Australian
Championships in 2015 before stepping up to the under 23 ranks
for the first time last year. Finished fourth at the Oceania
Championships last year just six seconds behind Michael
Storer.
Other names to watch: Alex Porter, Ryan Cavanagh and Alastair
Christie-Johnston and Harry Sweeny who step up from the junior
ranks. |
