Katrin Garfoot
Garfoot is looking for title number two after a strong year.
Illness meant she wasn't full strength for her Olympic debut
but she bounced back to claim bronze at the World
Championships just eight seconds off gold. If she comes with
the same form she had last year will be tough to beat.
Shara Gillow
Shara Gillow is looking for a record equalling fifth title and
to continue her impressive run. Since 2011 Gillow has claimed
gold or silver in a stunning display of consistency. It was a
quieter 2016 than we are used to but with a new team in
Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope.86 expect Gillow to start
strongly.
Kate Perry
After finishing fourth last year Perry will be targeting a
podium finish in 2017. One of the time trialists domestically
she won the Mersey Valley Tour in the National Road Series off
the back of a strong time trial. A bronze medallist at the
Oceania Championships
Rebecca Wiasak
The two-time individual pursuit world champion is lining up at
the time trial chasing her first national title. With a later
start to her track season Wiasak is lining up at the Road
Nationals for the first time since 2012, where she finished
eighth. A regular winner in the NRS in recent years but going
up against Garfoot and Gillow will be a bigger test.
Lucy Kennedy
Kennedy finished seventh at last years National Championships
before taking fourth at the Oceania Championships. A winner in
the National Road Series the 28-year-old including winning the
National Capital Tour, where she finished second in the time
trial to Rebecca Wiasak.
Other names to watch include NRS Champion Lisen Hockings and
former under 23 winner Rebecca Mackey who after an injury
plagued 2016 will be hoping to start 2017 with a strong
showing.
Under 23
Alex Manly heads in as the pre-race favourite. Has spent the
last couple of months on the track winning the Oceania team
pursuit title and the Madison national crown. Where her road
form is at will be the biggest question but performances as a
junior show he talent on the road as well.
Jaime Gunning steps up from the junior ranks but is a name for
the future. Claimed the under 19 national title ad Oceania
bronze in 2016 but missed a shot in the time trial at worlds
with injury. The step up from juniors is often challenging but
if anyone can surprise it is Gunning who impressed in the NRS. |
