2015-16 Jayco-AIS Track Sprint Team revealed
  April 20th 2015
The 10 rider team for the Jayco-AIS Track sprint team for 2015/16 season has been announced. Four women have been named in the line up including 11 time World Champion Anna Meares and reigning Commonwealth Sprint Champion Stephanie Morton.

Three time team sprint World Champion Kaarle McCulloch returns to the team after recovering from a knee injury. "Being back in HPU is really important for my career as it allows me to go on camps, receive funding and have opportunities that athletes outside of the system don't get.

"Being away from it for sometime allowed me to appreciate it on a whole new level and recognise that we have one of the best programs in the world," added McCulloch.

Despite rejoining the AIS programme McCulloch will remain based at the NSWIS. "Living in Sydney is working very well for me and now with the support from the HPU I believe I have the best personal set up possible."

While Victorian and silver medallist in the sprint at the 2012 Junior World Championships Caitlin Ward joins the squad for the first time. "I am incredibly proud of this scholarship, it's all a bit surreal to be honest," said Ward. "I have idolized athletes who compete for Australia ever since I can remember and those good enough to be in the AIS were always like superheroes when I was little.

"So when I got an offer to join them I felt like I needed to pinch myself to see if it was real," added Ward. "I am just so keen to be part of this environment and I think it will be an experience of a life time."

McCulloch returned to the Australian team at the World Championships in February claiming a bronze medal in the team sprint with Anna Meares. A major goal for McCulloch is to "solidify my position in the team sprint as starter - in doing that I hope to further my fourth place best overall time over the lap in the world this year to being within the top two in the world to allow Australia the best opportunity to be competitive for gold in Rio." A return to the sprint is also on the horizon for McCulloch. "My form came up very well and unexpectedly for the sprint with my second place and PB of 11.0 at Nationals and I believe it was just a small taste of what I can do in the event."

For Ward the youngest member of the team "I'm aiming for a stronger, faster and smarter."

The men's includes the experienced Shane Perkins, a former World Champion in both the keirin and team sprint. Former Junior World Champion and holder of two of the three fastest flying 200m times in history Matthew Glaetzer adds his considerable talent to the squad.

Fellow former Junior World Champion Jacob Schmid has again been selected. The 2014/15 season was a successful one for Schmid including a maiden UCI sprint win at the BikeNZ Cup, plus Australian and Oceania Keirin titles.

Peter Lewis pushed Matthew Glaetzer all the way at the National Championships in January earning himself selection for his first senior Track World Championships. Lewis also finished fourth in the sprint at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The team is rounded out by team sprint specialists Nathan Hart who posted the fastest standing start by an Australian at the World Championships in February. Reigning team sprint national champion Mitchell Bullen is the final member of the team.

2014/15 team member Daniel Ellis has announced his retirement, while Catherine Culvenor and Emerson Harwood have also left the team.
