  La Classique Morbihan Preview

A busy weekend of racing across Europe and America starts with La Classique Morbihan in France. One of two French races over the weekend and being held for the first time. Most of the big UCI teams are racing elsewhere with Wiggle Honda the biggest team racing here.

The Route

At 100 kilometres it is one of the shortest on the calendar. There is no serious climbs on the route but it is up and down giving little chance for the pure sprinters to recover. The race finishes with two laps of a 7.7km finishing circuit.

The Contenders

Audrey Cordon and Mayuko Hagiwara

Audrey Cordon on French soil usually produces a strong result. In these sort of races she is one of the best with the route not being easy but not overly hard. Won Cholet Pays de Loire Dames earlier in the year and will be looking to pick up another win.

Japanese Champion Mayuko Hagiwara is another rider to keep a close eye on. Climbs very well and will no doubt be looking to get up the road to take the pressure off some of the teams faster finishers.

Poitou-Charentes.Futuroscope.86

As one of the biggest French teams in a French race it is over great importance to them. The team has several cards to play and who they ride for is likely to depend on the situation on the road.

Pascale Jeuland is likely to be their main card. A strong sprinter who is strongest after a hard race. Finished top 10 overall at both the Tour of Qatar and Tour of Chongming Island against some very strong competition. With the field that is here should be able to handle the climbs and be in contention for the win.

Aude Biannic is another card who goes well when the road is up and down but without any major climbs and packs a strong finish. 11th at The Women's Tour last year. Always performs well on French soil especially in races with a similar field to this. Third overall at La Route de France and fourth Tour de Bretagne Féminin at the end of last year.

Other names to watch: Chloe Hosking, Sheyla Gurierrez and Soline Lamboley.
