Rain didn't dampen the celebrations in Taupo as Ione Johnson
and Hamish Bond claimed victory in the elite road races at
2018 Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
In the women's race Ione Johnson won the sprint from a select
seven rider group that broke away half way through the race
edging out Elyse Fraser and Teresa Adam for the title. Track
star Michaela Drummond lead home the main chase just over
three minutes behind.

Olympic rowing gold medallist Hamish Bond continued his
successful transition to cycle as he stormed to a solo victory
to take the men's crown. Bond went in to time trial mode with
the bunch unable to match his power finishing two minutes
behind. Commonwealth Games track medallist Dylan Kennett won
the bunch sprint for second narrowly edging rising talent
Corbin Strong.
